TASMAP is progressively introducing a 1:50 000 Topographic Mapping Series. Douglas-Aspley National Park is the central feature of this map. Containing deep river gorges and waterfalls, dry eucalypt forests and heathlands, and overlooked by a dolerite capped plateau, the Park is a refuge for many rare and endangered species. The historic town of Fingal, in the northern corner of the map, was first established as a convict station, and later distinguished as the headquarters of the State�s coal mining industry. The picturesque holiday and fishing town of Bicheno lies on the coast, being famous for its sandy beaches, turquoise waters and distinctive lichen-covered granite boulders. The 1:50 000 Map Series provides clear and accurate portrayal of topographic information, with symbols and map content giving enhanced depiction of buildings, hill shading and a simplified classification of vegetation.
