Now named Mount Chappell Island, the island is close to Badger Island within the Furneaux Group, Bass Strait. Drawn in 1861 by John Thomas this survey shows well delineated 10 acre parcels of land and includes the names of occupiers. The survey also shows the location of sealers huts and Mr Askunas's camp. Askunas had a commercial interest in guano resources in the region however Thomas found guano to be largely non-existent on the island. Mount Chappell Island was an important Aborigine muttonbird rookery and crucial for their livelihood. The island is now part of Aboriginal land.
