This comparatively well-preserved and intricately detailed plan of the penal settlement of Port Arthur was prepared from a survey by J R Hurst, dated 1824. The topography of the area is beautifully depicted with subtle colouration and finely shadowed vegetation contributing to the almost-three-dimensional image. The carefully drawn buildings, stone walls, watercourses and roads reflect the actual position of early convict buildings, mainly on the hillside to the south-west. Notably, natural landforms within the settlement have changed over time, including the reclamation of a substantial part of 'Russell Cove' (now Mason Cove).
Reproductions are inkjet printed on high quality paper using colour-fast UV tolerant inks. These plans and charts are suitable for laminating or framing.
